As we step into the new year, the South East property market has wrapped up the December quarter on a strong note. Before we dive into 2025, let’s take a quick look at how the market finished off in 2024.
The December Quarter saw another solid performance from the South East Property market. Listing numbers, while not at all-time highs, have been consistent across the quarter.Traditionally, listing numbers slow down the closer Christmas gets, and as opposed to last year, that was the trend this December. Whether this is a structural change to the market or just the Christmas listings dip will be revealed in early January.
Buyer demand remained fairly consistent across the South East of Queensland. While NSW and Victoria have seen downturns, with country Victoria particularly hard hit, the South East is still bucking the downward trend. Both numbers of sales and prices have remained buoyant. If the end-of-year tightening of listings carries forward into the new year, there is no reason this buoyant market shouldn’t continue.
Many sellers want to catch the top of the market, and we may well be close in early2025. As always, only time will provide the answer as to whether this is the case. If you are considering selling in the new year, the earlier you make the decision to list, the more chance you will get a jump start on the inevitable rush of property that will come to the market in late January and February.
